What is a militia, and how is it different from the Armed Forces?

The militia is a group made up of unpaid citizens who may be needed to defend their state or nation in a time of invasion or other crisis where needed.

Are there any legal regulations surrounding militias?

Yes. in Pennsylvania, those militias whose purpose to conduct civil unrest are illegal. The Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia is only training to maintain order in a time of chaos. Also, 10 U.S. Code § 246 states militias are comprised of non-currently serving military personnel.

Do you do criminal background checks?

Yes. We use a paid service that covers all 50 states. We understand the indescretion of youth, but felonies would be a barring factor in membership. This background check is done at no cost to applicants, and takes place after your application is received.

What roles could militias potentially play?

Anything. They could defend key infrastructure such as power distribution, water treatment plants, or anywhere they are needed.

What are the potential risks and benefits of joining a militia?

There is a risk that people may perceive you to be a threat to a civil society. There is a risk of injury during training. The benefits would be a sense of camaraderie, as well as learning skills such as situational awareness, first aid, CPR, and radio use (many become licensed HAM operators).

Who can join the Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia, and what training would be required?

Any Pennsylvania resident, age 18 and older, without any felony conviction. All training is provided. However, some trainings such as specialized medical training may require a fee.

What equipment would be necessary for militia members?

Generally, nothing. However, to learn proper firearm use, a long arm (such as an AR-15) and a side arm (pistol). You will receive a list of items, along with online sources where you can get the best prices.

How would militias be organized and led?

They are organized by counties, and lead by a unit Commanding Officer and an Executive Officer. The State Leadership is ran the same way.

What are the potential legal consequences of participating in a militia?

The legal consequences would be a result of your actions. If you are not allowed to carry firearms in your vehicle because you do not have a LTCF (License To Carry Firearm), you could be charged with a crime. If you are a felon, and do not reveal this to your leadership team you may be sent back to prison

How can potential issues like discrimination and vigilantism be prevented?”

What measures would be taken to ensure the safety of militia members?

Training. You will be trained in every aspect that militia members will need, medical, communications, and firearms. Go to the training and you will learn how to stay safe.
